CanSkate Coordinator
Position Summary
The East York Skating Club is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and experienced CanSkate Coordinator to oversee the administration and implementation of our Skate Canada CanSkate program.
The CanSkate Coordinator plays a vital leadership role in ensuring the successful operation of the program, both on and off the ice. Working closely with the Board of Directors, Club Administrator, coaching team, Program Assistants (PAs), skaters, and families, the Coordinator is responsible for creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment while ensuring the program operates in accordance with Skate Canada standards and the needs of the East York Skating Club.
This position reports directly to the East York Skating Club Board of Directors. Coaches involved in the CanSkate program report to the CanSkate Coordinator for matters relating to program delivery, while the Coordinator works collaboratively with all program stakeholders, including the Club Administrator, coaches, members, and parents.
The position typically requires:
- Approximately 5 hours per week of on-ice program coordination.
- Approximately 5 hours per week of administrative responsibilities.
Hours may increase during peak periods throughout the skating season.

Key Responsibilities
On-Ice Program Coordination
- Oversee all aspects of CanSkate session delivery to ensure balanced groups and a smooth flow throughout each session.
- Manage parent inquiries and communication during CanSkate sessions.
- Prepare and distribute iPads and participant name tags for each session.
- Distribute ribbons and badges on an appropriate schedule.
- Coordinate coach warm-up rotations.
- Provide leadership and direction to Program Assistants (PAs), including attendance, performance, assignments, and tasks.
- Provide on-ice support to coaches, Program Assistants, and skaters.
- Track skater and coach attendance, including substitute coaches.
- Manage music selection and operation during sessions.
- Coordinate, problem solve, and manage operational issues as they arise during sessions.
- Assist with coaching only in the event of an unexpected staffing issue.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain participant name tags.
- Maintain attendance records, badge progression, and ribbon tracking.
- Monitor skater progress in consultation with coaches and make occasional group adjustments when required.
- Ensure all skater achievements are accurately entered into Uplifter within one week following the completion of the Winter and Spring terms.
- Prepare CanSkate progress report cards.
- Plan special theme days.
- Communicate regularly with the Board of Directors regarding program operations.
- Coordinate and promote pre-season helmet and skate fitting sessions.
- Organize the content of CanSkate parent information sessions.
- Manage all aspects of the Program Assistant (PA) program, including attendance tracking, PA of the Month recognition, PA events, and PA training.
- Provide Program Assistant volunteer hours to the Club Administrator for entry into Uplifter.
- Purchase and distribute approved program equipment and incentives.
- Promote and monitor adherence to Skate Canada's equipment and safety requirements, including mandatory helmet use for CanSkate participants.
- Provide basic first aid to skaters as required.
- Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to continuously improve the CanSkate program.
Qualifications
Required:
- Registered Skate Canada Professional Coach.
- Member in good standing with Skate Canada.
- Thorough knowledge of Skate Canada's CanSkate program.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and supervise coaches and Program Assistants.
- Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, families, and Board members.
