LONG WEEKEND SKATING CLOSURES

Please note that there will be no skating on Sunday, October 12th, or Monday, October 13th, due to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

All regular sessions will resume on Tuesday, October 14th.

We hope you enjoy a safe and relaxing long weekend with your family and friends!

SIMULATION DAY - NOVEMBER 12TH

East York Skating Club is excited to announce that we will be hosting a Competition Simulation Day on Wednesday, November 12th, from 4:10–6:05 pm.

Who Can Participate:
Skaters competing in the following categories are encouraged to take part:
• STAR 2+ Freeskate
• STAR 5+ Artistic
• Skate Ontario Provincial Series
• Synchro Series

The simulation gives skaters the opportunity to perform their programs on open ice as a trial run before the competitive season begins. Skaters will have a group warm-up similar to a competition, followed by their program performances.

Schedule:
The session will begin at 4:10 pm with a group warm-up. Any remaining time at the end of the event will be open ice for skaters who participated in the simulation, allowing coaches to work with their skaters on the session.

Attire:
Competition outfits and East York Skating Club jackets are encouraged, but not mandatory.

Registration:
This event is free to participate in, but all competitors must register using the link below so we can create a schedule.

Registration Link

Registration closes on Sunday, October 26th at 11:59 pm.
An event schedule will be released after registration closes.

Before registering, please check in with your private coach to confirm participation.

If you are not participating in the simulation, we invite you to come out and cheer on your fellow East York skaters. This is a wonderful opportunity to see what comes next for our competitive and synchronized skaters after completing Pre-Bronze Groups!

STATION ROTATIONS BEGINNING FOR CANSKATE/FUNDAMENTALS PROGRAM

Station Rotations Begin This Sunday

This Sunday marks the start of station rotations for our CanSkate/Fundamentals program.

Over the first few weeks of the season, our focus is on helping skaters feel comfortable on the ice and settle into their groups. With station rotations, skaters will now move between three skill-focused areas each session:

  • Balance: Forward skating, edges, crossovers

  • Control: Stopping, backwards skating, speed

  • Agility: Turns, jumps

This format allows every skater to receive equal instruction in all areas, supports steady progression, and gives skaters the chance to learn from different coaches and benefit from their unique teaching styles.

Ribbons and Badges

As always, skaters will earn ribbons and badges as they master specific skills. To achieve a badge, they must complete all three ribbons within a stage (for example: Agility 1 + Balance 1 + Control 1 = Stage 1). Assessments and awards are handed out four times throughout the season, much like school report cards.

How Parents Can Help

To help your child succeed, please remind them before class that they will be rotating stations and working with different coaches. Preparing them in advance can help build confidence and ensure they are ready to try new skills.

We are looking forward to watching our skaters grow in confidence and ability through this program!
